THE Environment Agency has been consulting the public about its proposals for a new, medium-sized watercourse that would link parts of the existing river system between Botley and Sandford.

In its view, this option, together with some additional measures, offers the best hope of protecting Oxford from flooding.

I have seen a similar channel elsewhere. It looks beautiful and is an asset for wildlife.

In order to secure the money for this work, it needs to demonstrate that the option has public support.

I hope many readers of this newspaper will write in to support the proposals. The deadline for comments is Tuesday May 12.

You can write to The Oxford Flood Management Strategy, Environment Agency, Swift House, Frimley Business Park, Frimley, GU16 7SQ, or email oxford@environment-agency.gov.uk.

There is more information at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/oxfordflood or by calling 08708 506506.

Please remember the utter misery of those who have been flooded three times in the past nine years, and write in now to support these proposals.
