Police today appealed for witnesses following an attempted murder in Barton.
At about 10.40pm yesterday, two men knocked on the door of a house in Brampton Road. When the occupant came to the door, a 59-year-old man, they asked to confirm his name and pulled out a gun.
When the man saw the weapon he closed the door and the shot missed him and hit the wall.
The men made off in a dark coloured car. One of the men is Asian or mixed race, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in tall, and was wearing smart clothing, including a grey top and black blazer. The victim did not manage to get a second description of the man with the gun.
Det Chief Insp Colin Paine said: “I would like to reassure the community that we are treating this as a targeted incident.
"Although nobody was injured it is being investigated as an attempted murder due to the actions of the offenders.
“A team of dedicated officers will be conducting house-to-house enquiries and the Barton Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area to reassure the community. I encourage anyone who might know who these people are to contact police immediately.
“Were you in Barton yesterday evening?
“Did you see two men in a dark coloured car acting suspiciously?
“Do you know why this could have happened?
“Have you got any information that could help police enquiries?”
