East Oxford Cricket Club came away victors when they took on a side comprised of the East Oxford police beat team in a friendly match.
The civilians were all out for 163 while the police were bowled out for 104.
Pc Javid Ul-Haq, who bowled five overs for 13 runs and took six wickets, said: “It was fantastic — and I think it was a first for Oxfordshire.
“It wasn’t just a cricket game, we were doing it as a medium to get to know our communities. It was local officers in a local area playing with the community. We wanted them to know that we’re exactly the same as them and we’re here to help.”
The match was played at Lincoln College Cricket Ground, in Bartlemas Close, on Sunday.
Pc Ul-Haq said he hoped to arrange a rematch later in the summer and planned to have children’s activities and other teams representing the emergency services involved.
