Bringing in 20mph maximum speed limits in Oxford would be a waste of time, and – in these financially sensitive times – too expensive.
It would be far cheaper and more sensible to instruct cyclists to ride in the middle of their lane rather than adjacent to the kerb, or cycle lane.
They should also be banned from overtaking anything that is moving.
This would have the desired effect of slowing everyone down. As a result, no speed cameras or ugly and potentially dangerous cycle lanes would be required; and there would be less risk for pedestrians crossing roads – especially if cyclists mowing down pedestrians carried a heavy jail sentence and a life ban from using a road vehicle.
