We read and hear of many instances of uncleanliness and lack of care and attention in our hospitals, which is very depressing.
Well, let me push aside the doom and gloom and tell of an experience I had recently which was just the opposite.
I took my granddaughter to the maternity department of the John Radcliffe Hospital to have her baby.
Everywhere we went was clean, and the staff we came in contact with were brilliant – especially the midwife, a lovely lady named Beverley, who was efficient, dedicated and compassionate.
She made my granddaughter Amy as comfortable and relaxed as possible. But her care didn’t stop there. She looked after the rest of our party (Amy’s partner Frenchie, my wife Hilda and me) by bringing us numerous cups of tea, toast and jam, and biscuits.
Due to the professionalism of Beverley and her team, and the grit and determination of Amy, we were on our way home after approximately six hours – with a beautiful little daughter for Amy and Frenchie (and a beautiful great-granddaughter for Hilda and myself).
Thanks again, Beverley, you were wonderful.
