THE Oxford Welsh Glee Singers filled any room with song.
This is another picture of the choir in full voice at New Marston, Oxford, in 1975.
Our earlier picture of the choir, taken at the same concert, brought a response from William Marks, of Wheatley.
He confirmed that the concert took place at Marston Congregational Church, now the United Reformed Church, in Marston Road.
He writes: “I recognised the chairs and the carpet.
“The screen was moved round so the choir could be on the platform.
“I was probably in the hall with my mother.“ As we recalled (Memory Lane, December 1 last year), the choir was formed in 1928 by a group of young men who had come to Oxford from South Wales to work in the Cowley car factories.
The conductor in the picture is John Bettershell, a Wheatley schoolteacher.
