A COUPLE who fell in love at a cricket match 60 years ago have celebrated their emerald wedding anniversary.
Eric Spencer, 76, met his future wife Sheila Roberts while playing cricket with work colleagues in Bicester and she was a spectator.
Five years later they were married at St Mary’s Church in Thame.
The retired couple now live in Beauchamp Lane, Cowley, Oxford, and have four grandchildren.
Mr Spencer said: “I suppose our secret is being able to decide who is right and who is wrong at different times and knowing how to sort it out.”
He worked at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment in Harwell for 37 years and is now a custody visitor at Thames Valley Police.
Mrs Spencer received a long service medal from Thames Valley Police last year for her work with the Crown Prosecution Service’s Witness Service.
The couple celebrated 55 years of marriage at a surprise party at Moya restaurant in St Clements, Oxford, arranged by their son Neal, 52, and daughter Gillian, 48.
