TRANSFORM Oxford, Oxfordshire County Council’s grand scheme to pedestrianise the city centre, is likely to go through on a nod and a wink next week.
Work will start in June on the £1m project despite the fact the plans have the support of fewer than four in 10 of those who took part in public consultation.
It is not without its controversies and few concessions have been made.
Pensioners and the bus companies are far from happy. Call us cynical, but we suspect the Conservative-run county council thinks the end result will be a vote-winner, and wanted this scheme to go ahead because there are elections to be won later in the year.
