TRIBUTES have been placed at the spot where two people died when their car left the road and crashed into a south Oxfordshire field.
The man and woman were found in the wreckage of a green Citroen ZX discovered on its roof in Roke, near Benson, on Easter Sunday.
Police believe the pair could have been trapped in the wreckage for up to 11 hours before anyone found the car. It was in a field just off an unclassified road known locally as Holland Tide Bottom between the B4009 in Benson and Chalgrove.
Oxfordshire Coroners’ Office said the body of the man, believed to be in his 40s, and the woman, in her 20s, had not yet been officially identified.
Last night, flowers were placed at the scene and a black flag with the words ‘Rip Ali and Moe’ blew in the wind.
One message read: “To Ali, my daughter, can’t believe you’re gone. Will always be a space for you in my heart. Love you so much. Peter. Dad. xxxxxx”
Sgt Mark Hammond said: “We do not believe any other vehicle was involved.”
Yesterday it emerged the woman, from the Benson area, worked at the Green Tree pub in Wallingford.
Landlady Noranda Mills, who knew ‘Ali’ for less than a month, called her “inspirational.”
Anyone with information should call Sgt Hammond on 08458 505505.
