A man was jumped from behind and robbed by a gang.

Police today appealed for witnesses after the 32-year-old man was robbed on a footpath between Moreton Avenue and Charter Way, in Wallingford, as he was walking home from work at 2pm on Thursday.

As he reached the back of a block of garages in Croft Villas he was attacked from behind with what police believe was a heavy object.

His mobile phone was stolen, along with a rucksack containing a laptop and books.

It is believed the robbery was carried out by a group of three or four white teenagers, all aged between 16 and 23.

One is thought to be tall and stocky with blue or green eyes and blond hair and was wearing a scarf or piece of cloth which covered the lower part of his face and a light coloured jacket.

A second man was shorter and thinner than the first, with black shoulder length hair.

Dc Dave Edwards said: “The man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital and needed six stitches to the cut he sustained.

“There were a few people in the area at the time and I urge anyone with any information that could help the police with their investigations to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
