Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Charter Way, Wallingford.
Just after 2pm on Thursday, a 32-year-old man left work and was making his way to the town centre, walking along the footpath that leads from Moreton Avenue.
As he reached the rear of a block of garages in Croft Villas he was attacked from behind with what is believed to be a heavy object and his mobile phone was stolen, along with a rucksack containing a laptop and books.
It is believed that the robbery was carried out by a group of three of four white men, all aged between 16 and 23.
One of the robbers is thought to be quite tall and stocky with blue or green eyes and blond hair. He was wearing a scarf or piece of cloth which covered the lower part of his face and a light coloured jacket.
A second man was shorter and thinner than the first and has black, shoulder length hair.
Det Con Dave Edwards said: “The man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital and needed six stitches to the cut he sustained.
“There were a few people in the area at the time and I urge anyone with any information that could help the police with their investigations to get in touch.”
Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Det Con Evans at Didcot police station via 0845 8 505 505, or if you don’t want to talk to the police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111
