Sir – Prepare for bad news on Green Belt (Report, April 2). Bad news for whom? For young people who can’t afford to move out of their parents home because Oxford’s high land prices result in astronomic house prices?
For residents hoping it doesn’t rain too hard because their new estate has been built near the floodplain?
For the people buying a new home that’s got less space per person than almost every other country in Europe? Or is it the individuals forced to commute long distances adding to congested roads and overcrowded public transport.
Our current planning system is hopelessly broken. We need a cool assessment of where badly needed new houses should be built.
Your paper can lead that debate, but your current headline just demonstrates the failed thinking that got us to our current predicament.
