SHEEPDOG trials and birds of prey displays were among the attractions at the Thame Country Fair.

The three-day fair attracted hundreds of visitors to Thame Showground from Saturday until yesterday.

Stalls selling local food and produce were interspersed with mounted games and archery events at the 11th annual show.

Sophie and Martin Brough, of Little Milton, took their two children Lily, five, and Thomas, three, to the show on Saturday.

Mrs Brough, 39, said: “It was a bit wet but it was good.

“The children really enjoyed it and loved the sheepdog trials, the rabbits and the hamsters.”

Mr Brough, 37, added: “It’s nice to do something that’s a regular part of the community and see the countryside on show.

“It’s very good. They haven’t been very lucky with the weather today though.”

A number of canine events and demonstrations, including a pedigree dog show, took place as part of the event.

Visitors were able to watch horses take part in scurry racing while others looked on as falcons demonstrated their prowess.

Different types of crafts were also on show in a craft village and people could also watch chainsaw carving.

Rob Keeble, 49, of Sandhills, Headington, said: “We had a fantastic time – we go regularly, as there’s so much to do.

“I’m massively into falconry and that was a draw for me. We come here every year, it’s a big family thing and a good reason to get together and drink and have some nice food.”

Nick Heath, 34, of Thame, took along his daughters Danielle, 10, and Lexi, seven.

He said: “It was very good. There weren’t too many people. I think the rain held off a lot of people so it wasn’t so packed. The falconry and birds of prey were fantastic.”
