A lorry blaze caused the M40 to shut for five hours last night.
Police and firefighters were called to the northbound carriageway between junctions 10 at Ardley and 11 at Banbury at 8.20pm yesterday.
The lorry was carrying pressurised canisters.
No one was injured in the fire and the motorway was reopened at 1am today.
One northbound lane remains closed and the northbound exit slip road to Banbury at junction 11 is also closed.
Police said recovery was not expected until tomorrow as the lorry was carrying flammable gases.
