Childhood sweethearts Michael and Iris Winstone have celebrated 60 years’ wedded bliss with a party.
The pair met when they were at Gosford School, Kidlington, started dating and never looked back.
Mr Winstone did his national service in the Army, and the couple wed while he was on leave. Mrs Winstone and her family moved to an estate in Hungerford, where her father was a butler and she worked as a parlour maid.
After Mr Winstone returned from the army, they moved to Bletchley, then returned briefly to Kidlington, before moving to Bicester.
He worked for a brick yard in Bletchley, then at Pressed Steel, Cowley, before taking up a post of engineer at Bicester firm Portable Welders, where he stayed for 30 years.
The couple lived in Graham Road, Bicester, for 40 years before moving to their current home in Raymond Road.
Mr and Mrs Winstone, now 79 and 78, have four children, Catherine, Nigel, Peter and Clive, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
They said there was no secret to a happy marriage – it was all about working together.
Mr Winstone said: “It’s just how two partners work together – there’s no boss.”
