Sir – It is good to see that there is to be a jazz festival in Oxford over Easter (Weekend, March 26) and it is to be hoped that it will be successful. However, Paul Medley is wrong to call this the city’s first jazz festival.
Recent jazz festivals have included those held at Oxford Playhouse (Courtney Pine and Carol Kidd being featured) and, more than once, in South Park.
The Jacqueline du Pré Theatre at St Hilda’s College had a three-day festival, including such people as Alan Barnes, Roy Williams and Martin Drew, as well as a local big band.
