A 17-year-old girl has been arrested following the death of another 17-year-old girl in a crash on the A34 near Oxford today.
The 17-year-old girl died and a teenage boy is fighting for his life following the accident on the southbound carriageway, between the Pear Tree and Botley interchanges.
Shortly after 4.15am, the car — a silver Toyota Yaris carrying four people — left the road and crashed into a wooded area. All four people in the vehicle were teenagers from Oxfordshire.
The accident happened opposite the Wytham turn.
Thames Valley Police spokesman Claire Gourlay said: “Police have arrested the driver, a 17-year-old girl, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
“She was also arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.”
Ms Gourlay said two other passengers, a girl and a boy, were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington.
The boy remains in a critical condition.
Witnesses are urged to call police on 08458 505505.
