A woman has died following an accident on the A34 near Oxford during the early hours of this morning after the car in which she was traveling left the road and crashed into a ditch.
The accident happened opposite the Wytham turn on the southbound carriageway shortly after 4am.
The road is expected to be closed until lunchtime while an accident investigation takes place.
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance said: “We were called to the A34 southbound between Pear Tree and Botley and four patients were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.
“We were called at 4.15am and took four ambulances to the A34.”
David Staines, a spokesman for Thames Valley Police, said: “I can confirm that a woman died in an accident on the A34 southbound near the Wytham turn, shortly after 4am and police are investigating the crash.
“The southbound carriageway remains closed and officers are waiting for recovery vehicles.”
