Athletics coach Peter Roberts has died.

Mr Roberts, 65, of Blenheim Road, Kidlington, was critically injured in an accident on the Oxford ring road involving a broken down van on March 14 and never regained consciousness.

Yesterday, his family agreed to switch off his life support machine.

Athletics coach Allen Souch this morning led tributes to Mr Roberts.

He said: “Pete was a very regular and popular figure in the local athletics and cycling community.

“Despite having no motor vehicle Pete would regularly attend athletics meetings at venues many miles from home by cycling.

“He was a very keen cyclist and was an active member of Oxford City Cycling Club.

“Pete was a great friend and selfless supporter to many people and will be sadly missed by all in the local athletic community.”

Mr Roberts was a former coach at Oxford City Athletics club and had worked at the Churchill Hospital.
