Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and knocked unconscious in Abingdon.

Between 7.40pm and 7.53pm yesterday a man had been drinking in the town centre and was walking home after leaving The Plough pub in Stert Street when he was attacked in Waitrose car park.

The man does not remember what happened to him but a witness alleges that a man, who was with another man, punched him in the chest, causing him to fall into some metal railings.

The men then walked off in the direction of Audlett Drive.

The attacker was white, aged between 16 and 20, 5ft 8in tall and average build. He has light brown, collar length hair which was possibly gelled into spikes and was wearing a waist length white jacket.

Det Sgt Dave Horsburgh said: “The man was found unconscious in the car park. We are keen to determine the circumstances surrounding the assault and would ask anyone who saw the man when he left the pub and before he was assaulted, to get in touch.

“I would ask that anyone who witnessed this seemingly completely unprovoked assault to get in touch and ask anyone with any information to contact me.”
