A man found dead with a shotgun wound to his head has been named.

Charles Wellesley, 53, of Buckland, was discovered in woodland around a mile from his home in Gainfield, on Wednesday last week.

Mr Wellesley is known in the area as a local landowner and distant cousin of the current Duke of Wellington.

An inquest into the cause of death has been opened and adjourned.

Police are treating the death as unexplained, but it is not believed to be suspicious.
