Sir – Once again we find the latest edition of Oxon News on our doormats. I wonder how many people in Oxford immediately consign it to the waste bin. If they do open it they will find 28 pages of the most irrelevant rubbish ever to escape from a printer.
Apart from the usual ‘pat myself on the back’ rubbish from the leader of the council, the other gripping features include: ‘beat exam stress’, Bicester Garden Centre, firefighters at night, and a riveting portrait of Oxfordshire County Council’s chief executive. (Magazines do not get more exciting than this.) How much does it cost to produce this rubbish, and how much does it cost to distribute it to every home in Oxford? As council taxpayers we have a right to know.
