THE clock is ticking for people to have their say on Didcot town centre’s £150m expansion.

South Oxfordshire District Council is inviting feedback on its plans for the next stage of the Orchard Centre’s redevelopment before 4.30pm on April 17.

It has masterminded a new draft document which outlines its vision for the expansion, which will more than double the size of the town centre.

The regeneration of the 10-hectare site to the east of Orchard Centre, between Station Road, Hitchcock Way and Broadway, will include shops, homes and leisure facilities.

Public exhibitions will be held at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Orchard Centre, on Friday, between 1pm and 8pm and on Saturday, between 10am and 5pm.

Councillor Angie Paterson, cabinet member for planning, said: “This consultation is an important opportunity for people to have their say about how Didcot town centre will change in the future.

“This will be the last chance to contribute before the council considers the final document for adoption, so it is vitally important that we have comments to help us.“I encourage everyone to get involved by attending a public exhibition or giving feedback via the council’s website.”

Planners have said they want to make sure there is not a ‘dead space’ in the middle of Didcot at night and have conjured up ideas for European-style boulevards.

People who complete a questionnaire will be entered into a prize draw with a chance to win two tickets to see The Rats – including former members of the Boomtown Rats – play live at the Cornerstone in Didcot.
