Families from three Oxford estates were confronted by the carbon cost of modern day living at a science open day.
More than 80 people from Barton, Blackbird Leys and Rose Hill, including 11-year-old Craig Manning, pictured, visited Culham Science Centre.
As well as taking part in hands-on experiments with liquid nitrogen, vacuums and magnets, they were given a talk by Prof Steve Cowley, director of Culham’s United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) project, and taken on a guided tour of the centre’s fusion energy project.
The visit was organised by Oxfordshire Learning Communities.
