TWO men have been charged with drugs offences following a series of raids on an Oxford estate.

Police stepped up patrols in Blackbird Leys today, with a car crime crackdown and a drugs raid in Sorrell Road.

Fourteen people were arrested following 10 drugs raids on the Leys, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Jermaine Mason, 21, of Birchfield Close, was remanded in custody at Oxford Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged two counts of possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply, and one of possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Lloyd Lumsden, 53, was charged with possession of crack cocaine after a raid on a flat in Moorbank.

He was bailed until March 30.

Four men and a 13-year-old boy accused of dealing cannabis were bailed and a 24-year-old woman arrested for possessing a firearm was also bailed.

A 17-year-old boy accused of growing cannabis remained in custody last night.

Three women and a man were cautioned for drugs offences and another man was released without charge.

Police also seized a crossbow, Samurai sword, knuckle-dusters, a fist-size lump of crack cocaine, around 300 cannabis plants, dozens of bags of cannabis, a stolen laptop and up to £5,000 in cash during the raids.

During further operations yesterday, officers also arrested the driver of a suspected stolen car and seized four uninsured vehicles after automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) cameras were placed in Blackbird Leys Road and Grenoble Road in Greater Leys.

Two drivers were fined £200, and two £30 for traffic offences Another 10 private hire car drivers were reported to Oxford City Council’s taxi licensing department for failing to be properly equipped, or failing to provide the correct documentation.
