JOHN Tanner said (in Tuesday’s Oxford Mail) we should scrap the idea of choosing the head of state by heredity.
He then compares it with deciding the Lord Mayor of Oxford on the basis that their mum, dad or grandparent was Mayor.
I would say what dafter way is there of choosing a Lord Mayor than by choosing a councillor voted for by other councillors. If he wants democracy then the people should decide not councillors.
And in a democracy, when promises are made just to get votes, and then forgotten, that candidate or party should stand down.
