Sir – Responding to Abi and Pauline Wilson's letter (March 12), I think it time our elected servants at County Hall started to realise that incinerators are not the best solution to our waste problems, especially so at the proposed site at Sutton Courtenay.

Incinerators are clearly inefficient as electricity generators according to our energy providers.

They very probably have — as yet unknown because unstudied in any depth — harmful effects on the environment and our health that seem to far outstrip the impact of alternative methods of waste disposal.

It also appears the alternatives are more economically viable and socially acceptable, given the routes chosen by Blackpool, Norfolk and North London. Given the above, why are our council even considering incineration? I think some due diligence is required to get them out of this mess.
