Detainees were involved in a disturbance at Campsfield House Detention Centre in Kidlington yesterday.
It is not yet known how many detainees were involved in the incident at the Langford Lane centre, where about 200 detainees are housed.
Robert Hall, a spokesman for the Home Office, said: "We can confirm there was a minor incident at Campsfield House yesterday, which is now calm."
There were a series of disturbances at the centre two years ago, including two riots and a breakout involving 26 detainees.
Plans are under way to build the Bullingdon Immigration Removal Centre at Piddington near Bicester, for 800 detainees.
