THE selective nature of what incidents the police choose to release to the public is worrying.

Today the Oxford Mail can reveal that officers used a 50,000 volt stun gun during an incident in Blackbird Leys in November – and then kept it secret until we pressed them on it.

Thames Valley Police has form when it comes to keeping matters from the public. So it was reassuring to hear Supt Andy Murray say the details of this incident should be made available.

The police must remember that they have a duty to inform those they serve in the community — and who pay their wages.
