FORMER skinhead Sharon Woodward is putting the final touches to a film about the heyday of two-tone, reggae and ska music in Oxford in the late 1970s and early 80s.
The Headington film-maker, 43, showed a rough cut of the film, Thank You Skinhead Girl, at the Oxford Film and Video Makers studios, in Catherine Street, East Oxford, last week, and plans to find a distributor for the documentary.
Miss Woodward, inspired by the hit movie This Is England, revisits her time as a member of the Bonn Square Skinheads along with memories of The Barton Boot Boys and Joey’s Gang.
Ms Woodward, who helps young people with learning difficulties express themselves through film, said: “I think the film will give people some insight into one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented youth sub-cultures.
"Being a skinhead gave me an identity, a feeling I was part of a gang. It was just great to dress in that way and felt totally liberated.”
The film intersperses interviews with former skinheads with images of and music from the time.
