Sir – Few people will realise the county council is undertaking another three-week consultation on the proposal to build a massive incinerator between Didcot and Abingdon. This ends on March 27.

The renewed public consultation was marked on Sunday by the creation of a human ‘No’ on Wittenham Clumps, by Wittenham Against the Incinerator.

In the north of the county, meanwhile, 20 parish councils have written to the Secretary of State and Cherwell District Council has stated that it will use all policy means available to prevent the incinerator from being built at the alternative site at Ardley.

In the south, both the Vale district council and more recently South Oxfordshire District Council have raised objections.

So far, 10,000 people have signed the petition against the Sutton Courtenay incinerator proposal at www.scai.co.uk. To build on that, SCAI is to hold public meetings, at Didcot this week, Harwell on the 20th and in Abingdon Guildhall on March 25, all at 7.30pm.

We really do owe it to our children to understand the implications of the proposed incinerator over the next 25 years and that there are alternatives which OCC has not properly considered.

I urge everyone to review the subject and come to a considered opinion.

If they then wish to object, they should sign the online petition at www.scai.co.uk and, most importantly, by March 27, write letters of objection, quoting WRG SUT/APF/616 60CM to the planning officer: mary.thompson@oxfordshire.gov.uk Robin Draper Sutton Courtenay
