A SIMPLE act of thuggery has denied tragic Rob Hughes the memories of a career in professional football.

The former Oxford United player was attacked outside a club in the lively resort of Malia in Crete last year – and lost his long-term memory as a result.

His mum says he is stuck in the era of breakdancing and the Karate Kid.

Now she is hoping that a trip to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday will trigger memories and help him get his memory back.

It is the latest in a string of trips designed to jog his memory.

Seeing the home dressing room, the pitch, and hearing the crowd sing might trigger something and help him regain those lost years.

Remarkably, Robbie, 28, still harbours dreams of becoming a professional footballer.

We hope Saturday’s visit proves to be a success and that those who go along to watch Oxford United play Grays will give him the encouragement he deserves.

Let’s hope that both Rob and the Us have something to smile about come 4.45pm.
