THE idea of giving away free soup and sandwiches is a noble one.
What is astounding is the fact that families in Oxford are so badly hit by the recession that they cannot afford food and drink – the reasoning behind the credit crunch brunch?
Soup kitchens - rarely seen in Britain these days– are more usually associated with helping the homeless and do sterling work up and down the country, feeding and caring for the those in dire need.
Today – and for the foreseeable future at Temple Cowley United Reformed Church – free soup and sandwiches will be dished out to anyone who wants them.
Let’s hope those in real need take up this generous offer.
