I WRITE regarding Alan Morgan’s letter in Thursday’s Oxford Mail, regarding the signs in Headley Way referring to The Lakes parking zone.
I am surprised that, being a Headington man, he did not know it refers to the housing estate just off Headley Way, in which all the streets are named after stretches of water in the Lake District – namely Derwent, Coniston and Bowness avenues, and Ambleside and Eden drives.
It was always referred to by locals as The Lakes when I lived there from 1970 until the ‘80s.
