Sir – I received The Oxford Times this morning and turned with interest to the Weekend section to read with some surprise, Christopher Gray’s review of Othello which opened at The Playhouse on Tuesday.
My surprise is because he never once mentions Patrice Naiambana (sorry — one mention but only his name in brackets after Othello). For me, this is a grave omission for everyone I spoke to after the performance, judged him to have given a very strong portrayal of Othello.
I don’t think Christopher Gray liked this performance for he only picks out the bits he didn’t like and fails to mention any of the other excellent features of this production.
We are very lucky to have an opportunity to see such fine plays in Oxford and long may they continue to come.
