John Hampden Primary school became a Victorian institution to mark its 150th anniversary in 1987. Pupils and staff appeared in Victorian costume, and there were rows of bench desks, oil lamps – even a cane! Pictured are, left to right, Hannah Fox, Richard Croak, Benjamin Buckle and Lucy Walters, all aged nine.
The middle picture, taken at the John Hampden School fete in 1979, shows Sophie Kinch giving a lift to fellow Indian Marcus Walker, in the fancy dress parade.
In the third picture, customers look for a bargain on an antiques stall at the popular town market in 1966.
