A serviceman is trying to track down the family of a Didcot comrade whom he was with when he died in Palestine in the 1940s.
Edward Fisher, 81, is appealing for information after his friend Philip Roy Broughton, who lived in Didcot, died aged 20 in a bomb attack on a train.
He is keen to let relatives know that the RAF serviceman did not suffer in his final moments.
Widower Mr Fisher said: “Philip was my bosom pal, we were very close, and I would like to contact some of the family.
“I know I have left it a bit late, but I am still alive and I would like to contact some members of his family to say that Philip never knew what happened to him – I was with him.”
Anyone with any information about Mr Broughton’s family can contact Mr Fisher on 01948 780416 or write to 4 Old Farm Close, Bronington, Whitchurch, Shropshire, SY13 3ER.
