So Oxfordshire County Council’s traffic supremos have dumped the idea of making people change onto shuttle buses at the Plain to get into central Oxford (Council Backtracks on Interchange Scheme, in Thursday’s Oxford Mail).
Why on earth did they put forward this daft idea in the first place, wasting so many people’s time and effort?
Ian Hudspeth, the cabinet member for transport, says the council has listened to concerns.
If they have listened it must be a first, as they have previously ignored residents’ protests.
Mr Hudspeth has already said that he will go ahead with the rest of the short-sighted Transform Oxford scheme, despite many people’s concerns about it.
If he is in a listening mood, perhaps he will pay attention to the disabled and infirm, who will be seriously inconvenienced by moving the bus stops from Queen Street to Castle Street.
Perhaps he hasn’t noticed that there is no level pavement between Queen Street and Castle Street.
