Friends and family of a nightclub-loving man who died from a congenital heart defect just days after his 21st birthday are organising a charity night out in his honour.
Kiam Fraser, from Greater Leys, Oxford celebrated his birthday on December 12, but was admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital four days later after becoming dehydrated.
His condition appeared to be improving, but he was not well enough to leave hospital and died on January 4.
Now his friends and family have organised a tribute night in his honour on Thursday at the Lava Ignite club, formerly the Park End Club, in Park End Street.
Friend Lynzi Worth, 21, from Kidlington, said: “Kiam was a regular at the club and he used to come every Saturday.
“Kiam had been suffering from a long-term illness but it was still shocking when he died.
“The evening will be a fundraiser for the cardiology ward at the John Radcliffe, and I am expecting a lot of people who knew Kiam to turn up.
“The list of people who are coming is growing by the day and I think the event will be very well attended.
“Kiam was fun to be with and very loyal to his friends, whether he had known them for years or for just a few days.
“He would always make people feel welcome and was an all-round good guy.”
Kiam’s mother, Gilly Fraser, 43, of Primrose Place, Greater Leys, said: “We all miss him terribly — we have our good days and bad days.”
Ms Fraser said she wanted the money from the tribute night to go towards installing Internet technology at the cardiology unit, to help young people stay in touch with their friends.
She added: “At the children’s hospital, they have got all sorts of hi-tech equipment so that young people can go online and stay in touch with their friends, and the same thing should be available for young people on adult wards.
“Having new technology available helps to keep young people’s spirits up, and that’s a vital part of the recovery process.”
Admission for Vibe: Kiam’s Memorial Dance, is £3 before 11.30pm and £5 afterwards.
