A family whose Jack Russell was savaged in an attack by another dog fears a child could be injured next.

Pippi suffered severe wounds to his back after he was bitten and clawed in Begbroke, near Yarnton.

The pet was left with skin hanging off its body and needed treatment from a vet following the incident on Monday, February 16.

Linda Wilkinson, of Begbroke Crescent, is urging anyone else in the area whose pet has been attacked to contact police.

She said: “We are pretty sure another dog did this. You look at the injuries and it terrifies me to think what could happen if it was a child in this village.”

Pippi was attacked after escaping from the house and running into fields behind Begbroke Crescent.

When he returned Mrs Wilkinson thought he was covered in mud and grass, so took him inside for a bath and clean-up.

She said: “He was covered in saliva as well and when my husband started bathing him we found blood and all this skin hanging off.

“His whole back was ripped apart and there were teeth marks and puncture wounds. Lots of people walk their dogs and there are children round here so I am really worried.

“I fear this could happen to a child.”

Pippi underwent a three hour operation, but is now back home recuperating Mrs Wilkinson said: “I hope whoever owns the dog that did this looks at the photo and realises what has happened, so we can put a stop to it.”

Police are investigating reports that the attack may be linked to injuries a 14-year-old paperboy received from a dog three years ago.

They are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesman said: “We are following up a number of inquiries but unfortunately there were no witnesses.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
