A multi-cultural event in celebration of International Women’s Day will aim to bring the community of an Oxford estate closer together.
Rose Hill and Littlemore Children’s Centre, in The Oval, Rose Hill, will stage a day of activities open to women and their children from all over Oxford. The free event is on Thursday, March 12, from 10am until 3-4pm.
Cara Shanahan-Owens, from the centre, said: “We’ve got different cultural foods, different dresses as well as glass making and salt dough.
“There will also be music — it’s just basically a day for women to come in and relax as we’ll be having massages and eyebrow threading.
“We’ve not done anything like this before.
She added: “We are trying to get the whole of Rose Hill into our centre to get to know what goes on here and what other things that we offer.
“There will be things for children and the women to do.
“Hopefully it will be a big success and we can put on other events in future.”
International Women’s Day dates back to 1911 and this year takes place on Sunday, March 8, with various events in Oxford and the county throughout the following week.

The event coincides with the 20th Oxford International Women's Festival which starts with a colourful parade from Oxford Town Hall to Broad Street at 10am today.
