Two churches were raided in what police believe were “religious” attacks.
A burglar broke into St James the Great church, in West Hanney, near Wantage, between February 19 and 24, and forced open the safe. Nothing was stolen.
Detectives are linking it with a similar break-in at St Nicholas Church, in East Challow, between February 15 and 19 when burglars tampered with the safe and damaged the chalice.
Pc Sarah Wilson, investigating the incidents, said: “We believe this is not an act of vandalism but possibly a religious statement against the church.”
Anyone with information should call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
