Sir – It is not strictly true that the anniversary of the purge of Oxford 1,000 years ago will not be commemorated by the people of Oxford.
Every Friday at 2 pm from Friday, April 24, until Friday, October 23, 2009, an Historic Oxford Walking Tour will be conducted from Blackwell Bookshop, 53 Broad Street, informing and showing people places concerning Oxford, beginning with the millennium anniversary of the burning of the wooden town by the Danes and explaining events from then on historically to present day.
This was planned by Blackwell last year with in mind that 2009 is the anniversary of this important historical event in our city.
We find tourists are very interested in the history of our city and found it important we mark this event with this regular weekly walkers event in 2009, amongst our regular tours we hold each season.
