I READ the Oxford Mail’s comments regarding councillors being offered £132.03 for an overnight stay in an Oxford hotel.
This is nearly the amount that a pair of OAPs have to manage on for a week.
What was to stop councillors from going into an ordinary bed and breakfast? If they needed an evening meal there are plenty of cafés in Oxford where they could get a reasonably priced meal – even Wetherspoons where two meals can be bought for about £6.50. Or are our councillors too elitist to use these facilities?
I would have thought that £50-£60 should have been ample for their needs.
I agree that we the taxpayers should know how our money is being spent and how many councillors took up the offer.
In view of the present financial climate, surely our councillors should also be tightening their belts.
They are quick enough to talk about the cost of concessionary bus passes, so why should they be able to claim such high expenses?
