Older carers will be able to learn how to look after themselves, as well as their relatives and friends, on a new course in Oxford.
The free course has been created to let unpaid carers over 50 know about advice and support that is available to them.
Topics including how to claim benefits, get help from social services and assertiveness training will be covered at weekly sessions.
Caroline Lattin-Rawstrone information co-ordinator for Oxford Carers’ Centre, said the five-week course would also enable carers to meet people in the same situation as them.
Ms Lattin-Rawstrone said: “Many carers haven’t claimed all the benefits they’re entitled to. This is also about knowing that we’re here, and knowing that there’s someone they can ring up and say ‘I’m having a bad day’.”
For full details and to book a place, call 01865 205192 or email info@carerscentre.co.uk The carers’ centre can pay for transport and for someone to look after the person being cared for.
