Realising the potential in a charming village property has proved worthwhile for Sarah and Philip Brayshay.

Two years ago the couple took over Crenlyn in Scotts Lane, Marsh Gibbon, and set about painstakingly restoring this early Victorian Cottage.

Mrs Brayshay, a financial advisor, said: “When we viewed the property it was in a neglected state and we could not use the front door because it was so rotten “This meant we had to do lot of work but It has been very rewarding seeing the cottage come together again.”

Dating from 1840, Crenlyn has been restored with much creative flair. .

Mrs Brayshay, pictured above, said: “We preserved the charming period features wherever possible. There are original doors, working fireplaces and flagstone flooring in the dining room.

“The kitchen has much rural charm, with wooden units and a Belfast sink, and in the bathroom, the period style suite includes an old fashioned cistern.

“All the three bedrooms, two of which are doubles, have the original cast-iron fireplaces.”

Mrs Brayshay added: “The house is situated at the end of a no-through road and has a south-facing, private patio which is a sun trap.”

The property also has a separate barn which would make a sizeable garage with a first-floor office and there is ample additional parking.

Marsh Gibbon is one the most popular villages in North Oxfordshire and is only ten minutes away from the M40, “There is a great quality of life here as it is a friendly village, with two great pubs and a Post Office .It is a paradise for dog lovers, or for anyone who enjoys the countryside,” Mrs Brayshay added.

Crenlyn is on the market for £320,000. To arrange a viewing contact Mark Charter at Carter Jonas on 01865 511444, or visit the website:www.carterjonas.co.uk.
