Twenty-six companies looking for new workers will be at the Oxford Mail Job Fair from 10am to 5pm tomorrow.
The fair, at the Town Hall, in St Aldate’s, has been set up to help the county’s thousands of unemployed find work and get help and information about training.
Organisers are expecting a busy day following the BMW redundancies as well as the recent surge in unemployed – at the last count in February, the number of people in Oxfordshire looking for jobs had reached 6,906.
Among the exhibitors will be Thames Valley Police, IT company RM and Paterson Recruitment.
Jacqui Tornros, business development manager at Paterson Recruitment, said: “Things haven’t been this bad for people looking for work since the 1990s. But we grouped together all the vacancies from our offices and have quite a few positions that need to be filled.”
There will also be workshops, including CV training, and presentations from the individual exhibitors.
Belinda Rand, recruitment sales manager at the Oxford Mail, said: “The fair is an ideal chance to speak face to face with employers to find out exactly what they are looking for.”
