FORMER BMW workers handing back their uniforms tomorrow can meet employment advisers.
The 850 agency staff laid off by BMW on Monday were told to return their uniforms and ID cards, or face a £35 cut in their pay packets.
But, when they take their kit back to the Cowley Mini plant, they will have the opportunity to ask JobCentre Plus staff for advice about job applications, benefits, CV-writing and skills.
The drop-in session will run at the plant from 8am-noon.
Another joint Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council scheme will see a new job club begin.
The East Oxford Job Club was set up in the wake of Monday’s redundancies. The weekly drop-in club will see workers given advice on applying for jobs and the benefits they are entitled to.
Anyone looking for work will be welcome at the club, which will run from 11.30am to 2.30pm on Thursdays at the Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre, in Pegasus Road.
The club’s first session will take place on February 26.
A spokesman for both councils said officers were talking to the South East England Development Agency and JobCentre Plus on a daily basis to discuss the finer details of the club.
