A job club may be opened to provide advice and support to the 850 BMW workers who lost their jobs this morning.
The club, which would be organised by Oxfordshire County Council, Oxford City Council, Jobcentre Plus, the Learning and Skills Council and the South East England Development Agency , would provide a weekly meeting place where workers could learn more about writing CVs, retraining and how best to look for work.
County council leader Keith Mitchell said: βIn addition to the agency workers at BMW, there is every danger there may be job losses along the supply chain into BMW and we need to be ready with support and advice on benefits, on re-skilling and on job opportunities very quickly.β
