It was a day for fun, but there was a serious message behind it.
The theme of Clanfield Methodist Youth Club’s float was the integration of different nationalities.
It carried the message ‘Symbol of Man’s Hope’ on the side.
The tractor-hauled float was one of several which took part in a parade through the village in 1958 or 1959.
The two members at the back of the trailer are Tony Harrison and Olive Barnes and those at the front are Sheila Whitlock and Tim Blake.
The tractor driver is Doug Thompson.
Mr Harrison, of Mill Lane, Clanfield, who sent in the picture, recalls that youth club singers often entertained patients at Bradwell Grove Hospital and other groups in the area.
“We used to make our fun – we had some good times.”
